Prospero

Prospero, Austin 1982

English rose

Discontinued by David Austin roses decades ago Prospero still has a pretty big fan base today. A child of The Knight X Château de Clos Vougeot Prospero wears rosette shaped, velvet red blooms with a very strong old rose fragrance. Growth is upright, Hybrid Tea like, and can reach 120X80 cm or 5X3 feet. Her Hybrid Tea appearance probably was the reason she got sacked by Austin. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Good disease resistance and that's rare in red roses.
A beautiful rose and one that doesn't has the floppy, flamboyant growth of so many later Austin varieties. Very hard to find in Europe
