One of the most beautiful old Teas this Madame Lambard. In America she's called Madame Lombard but that's 100% historically incorrect!

Deep pink with salmon shine, quintessential Tea/China shaped flowers. Her appearance has a wide range of colors. She can grow light pink flowers to even white. When fully open the flowers are rather full, Maman Cochet style. The fragrance is very good. Madame Lambard has a very long blooming season. Almost non stop in flower.

It's a vigorous tea that can reach 150X150 cm or 5X5 feet. Some say even bigger. Foliage is healthy. Zone 6b to 11b. Rain and heat resistant.

Madame Lambard is one of the parents of the famous Tea legend Maman Cochet and it definitely shows.

When we think of Sombreuil we immediately think of that vigorous climber with big, very flat rosettes but this rose isn't the real Sombreuil and she's certainly not a Tea. Research showed that the rose in commerce known as Sombreuil (Colonial white) is a Wichuraiana hybrid and of much more recent origin... 

The real Mademoiselle de Sombreuil is an elegant Tea with a moderate growth up to 120 cm or 4 feet. With some support she can make a nice pillar rose. Flowers are medium to big, very double or full, cream with pink shading in the center. They stand mostly in small clusters. Fragrance can vary from mild Tea to strong Tea. She blooms all summer and autumn long. 

This is a rather tender Tea that needs zone 7b to 10b. Some winterprotection in winter is advised in colder regions. Loves full sun. 

Mademoiselle de Sombreuil was an 18th century aristocrat. Her father got captured by the revolutionaries in 1792 and would face the guillotine. His daughter begged the men to release her father. "We will do that if you drink a glass filled with fresh blood from a decapitated prisoner" they replied. She immediately agreed and she saw how they filled a glass with blood gushing out of a decapitated man. She drank it all and they promised to release her father but a few days later he still died from the guillotine. 

Mademoiselle de Sombreuil became a symbol of the cruelty of the French revolutionairies.

Maman Cochet X Madame Hoste 

A rather very beautiful Tea that's somewhat difficult to find in Europe where she's not seldom sold as Marie Van Houtte. In the USA she's popular in more southern states. Let this be a first or second introduction... 

A result of the cross between the magnificent Maman Cochet and Madame Hoste William R Smith has large, full, creamy flowers with pink towards the edges and yellowish shading. For a Tea the fragrance is very strong and sweet. Blooms as long as temp stays above 15 degrees Celsius 

Not a small shrub this William as he can climb up to 350 cm or 11 feet. As a shrub he get 150X150 cm or 5X5 feet. Flowers have many petals but open better during rain than many other full teas. Loves hot and dry weather as all Teas. Rather Hardy zone 6b to 11b

La Sylphide

A stunning rose, highly praised when it came onto the market. As with almost 90% of the old roses La Sylphide went into obscurity in the 20th century but she has been revived and her availability is growing.

Large, flesh pink with yellowish shading, very double blooms borne mostly solitary. Strong fragrance. Perpetual blooming throughout summer and autumn. Height: 130 X 100 cm or 4X3 feet. Very disease resistant, zone 6b to 10b. Needs full sun, don't prune

A very beautiful and elegant Tea this Regulus. Silvery very light pink petals with darker reverse. A good strong fragrance is present. Makes a rounded shrub of approx 120X100 cm or 4X3 feet. Zone 6b to 11b. Loves sunny dry weather

However: Many experts came to the conclusion that the current "Regulus" in commerce is in fact Triomphe de Luxembourg, also a Tea. After very close examination they argue that the flowers, leaves and even the thorns are identical to Triomphe de Luxembourg. No worries, that's an equally beautiful rose.

Two of the most magnificent roses ever created joined forces and the result was... Souvenir de Pierre Notting! 

What can I say? It's a real showstopper and probably the most beautiful Tea available today. Strong words I know but it's true:

Big, pale yellow, with an apricot center, very full bloom. Despite her manly petals she looks extremely elegant. She unfolds her delicate petals like an Empress in perfect Tea manner ending up as a puffy Ridiculously beautiful flower. Very arrogant but it's allowed. She maybe even trumps her parents beauty. The flowers are borne solitary or in small clusters of four to five. 

There is however, a catch, there always is damned 🙄: She can't take rainy weather well. The blooms tend to ball, just like Malmaison. But don't despair as Malmaison doesn't ball in my garden not even in rainy weather. So she may do well in some gardens. She's Hardy as she was bred in Belgium/Luxembourg, zone 6b to 10b

Nice size, 120X100 cm or 5X3 feet but when she's happy she grows bigger. Especially suited for pots and this way you can move her to a dry spot when rain is expected.

Healthy foliage which is red when young. 

When I saw her I had to buy her but she was already sold out. Definitely next year!

A glorious rose in more dry, warm summers or in a sheltered, Cosy spot. Light pink with creamy center and reverse pink highlights. These blooms are big and exude a strong real Tea fragrance.

A very vigorous grower which makes a rounded shrub of approx 150X150 cm or 5X5 feet. She can get higher in ideal circumstances and then she can reach 350 cm or 11 feet. Very prolific bloomer from spring well into autumn. Zone 6b to 11b. Ideal as a solitair or in big pots. Excellent as a cut flower. Hughly popular in Australia

Some people think that bi colored roses are only found in modern roses but that's definitely not true. Especially the Teas have some varieties in their ranks with beautiful exquisite bi colors.

Rosette Delizy from Paul Nabonnand is such a stunning rose. Still highly popular in more warm and dry climates this rose is of a breathtaking beauty. But don't let that put you off, she thrives in zone 7b to 11b

Rosette is a typical bushy Tea and can reach 130X100 cm or 5 X 3 feet. New growth is bronze red and nearly thornless.

From the buds emerge yellow - carmine pink outer petals with apricot carmine highlights. A good tea fragrance is clearly detectable. The beautiful flowers are borne solitary or in small clusters. The shrub blooms very freely throughout the season. As with all Teas Rosette Delizy thrives in hot dry weather but the colors are most intense in cooler weather. She doesn't like shade but she is rain tolerant.
