Large flowering Wichuraiana climber

Alexandre Girault has a different color than his brothers and sisters: Carmin pink slowly fading into pink. It's a very flashy and stunning color for such a big climber. The blooms are five cm wide or 2,5 inch and are very double, they come in clusters. A strong apple with other fruit fragrance is present. The foliage is again quite glossy and dark green. The growth is up to 800 cm or 24 feet so we're talking here about reblooming ramblers but so are all Barbier roses except for Albertine which doesn't bloom after it's first flush. The stems are very flexible so you can lead them in all directions you want. Alexandre reblooms a bit in September. No big health problems. Zone 6b to 9b. Can be used for pergolas, gazebos, arches, trellis screens, chains and as weeping rose. Don't prune this rose. All Barbier climbers need very little pruning to none.

Alexandre Girault is still found throughout the French countryside growing in old farms, old gardens etc. It's a reminder of the popularity Barbier climbers had in the second half of the 20th century. The Barbier nursery closed in 1972…now 51 years ago.

Alberic Barbier is known for its dark green glossy foliage, almost like holly, his flexible thin stems and of course his beautiful Cream, quartered blooms (8 cm) with yellow shading in the center fading into white. Very large, up to 600 cm or 18 feet. Blooms for six weeks and reblooms in September although less floriferous. The buds are ovoid and yellow.

This Barbier climber can be grown in a large container and is very shade tolerant. The blooms have a strong fresh tea fragrance. A very tough rose and deservedly popular! 

Albertine

One of the most popular climbers of the 20th century. Yes she can get mildew but that's entirely because of a bad spot with no airflow. When planted in good air circulation she won't get mildew.

Very vigorous growth up to 700 cm or 21 feet. Very thorny. The buds are large and ovoid and stand in clusters. They open into salmon pink with copper shading double blooms. They slowly age to light pink. Very floriferous and impressive first flush. The blooms are highly scented and smell sweet. Blooms for a very long time. Minimum 6 weeks or more. No blackspot.

Zone 6b to 9b. 

Albertine (French prononciation) was Barbier's biggest creation and she never got out of fashion. Even today nearly ever garden center has her. Our specimen came from my parents garden. When my grandmother passed away in 2010 I replanted her Albertine to my parents garden and in 2018 she came to our garden to grow in a willow tree. So she survived replanting three times without problem. Last summer I looked at her mid July and I said to Yves: Look, she's still producing flowers. More than 6 weeks in blistering heat.

Big (8cm) double flat blooms in richt apricot fading into Cream. Blooms in clusters. Strong fragrance. Buds are high centered and salmon pink. Vigorous growth up to 600 cm or 18 feet. After the main flush some scattered blooms later in the season. Zone 6b to 9b. Shade tolerant.

Apricot /light salmon pink flat double blooms (5 cm) cascading down on a vigorous bushy climber. 700 cm or 21 feet. Blooms for five weeks or more. Strong sweet musk fragrance. Some scattered blooms later in the season. Zone 6b to 9b

Shade and drought resistant. A very beautiful romantic climber

A wonderful rose and very impressive when in full bloom. Very vigorous and bushy growth up to 700 cm or 21 feet.

The blooms look like those from Paul Transon but are lighter pink and more flat. Strong apple fragrance. It doesn't repeat as well as Paul Transon. She can get mildew but never serious. Shade tolerant. Very hardy zone 4b to 9b

A magnificent large climber. Vigorous, healthy growth up to 500 cm or 18 feet. Very floriferous flush in late spring with some scattered blooms later in the season. The blooms resemble those from Paul Noël but they are a bit bigger and more flat. Quartered light pink small clusters. They have a moderate Apple fragrance. Paul Transon is shade tolerant and can withstand drought which is important in these times. Zone 6b to 9b
