The nursery offered 1500 varieties including the almost complete catalogue of Rudolph Geschwind. It's because of Ketten Frères the West learned about the many superior creations of Geschwind which were especially famous for their hardiness.
Ketten frères also was the rose supplier of the Russian Imperial court. The Romanov Gottdorp dynasty loved their roses. When the Tsar and his family were executed in 1918 in Yekaterinburg the Ketten nursery lost its biggest customer as they delivered roses for all the palaces and gardens of the Russian royal family.
That setback together with the two World wars forced the nursery to close in 1948.
Ketten mostly created early Hybrid Teas. They loved to cross with the Pernetiana's from Pernet Ducher. Their HT's were known for their big flowers in beautiful colors. Their most well-known creation was the climbing version of Mme Edouard Herriot, a Pernetiana from Pernet Ducher. Even today this is THE best climbing Pernetiana. Other beautiful creations were Mme Charles Haas, Papa Klein and Princesse Etienne de Croy.
After the closing of the nursery Ketten Frères were forgotten for decades until the Luxembourg rose association started to rehabilitate the Ketten nursery and the search was on to find as much Ketten varieties as possible. The ones they found are now all on display at Gaard um Titzebierg garden Together with Soupert et Notting creations
