Hume's blush Tea scented China
China Hybrid
This is a China of unknown origin but probably created by Chinese breeders. The parents therefor are unknown but we think Rosa Chinensis hybrid X Rosa Gigantea
The rose was introduced in England in 1809 by Abraham Hume.
Suddenly this rose disappeared in the West and went extinct. It is though that all current roses sold as Hume's Blush tea scented China are imposters and not the original rose. Still there is one rose sold which could be the one: The Bermuda "Spice" rose. It's this rose you can buy at most nurseries under the name of Hume's blush Tea scented China.
Is it the original? We just don't know but the Bermuda Spice is a very beautiful rose. Up to 60 cm or 2 feet. Blush pink filled blooms, darker shade in the center and strong spicy fragrance. Needs spring protection against late frost.
