Modern roses usually love a good pruning now and then and many even each year but there are roses which are better left alone. Pruning them could lead to bad growth, no blooms and even death..

Which roses? Well it starts with the China's. China roses make long slender canes and bloom continuously. They are notorious for hating being pruned. Each leaf 🍃 and stem gives them energy and pruning that away really weakens them. This dislike of pruning was passed on when they were crossed to obtain Tea, Noisette and Bourbon roses.
