Chartreuse de Parme, Delbard 1995
Hybrid Tea
Delbard was one of the first to give an answer to the growing popularity of David Austin roses in the early nineties. He didn't imitate Austin concerning the flower shape but he did search for extremely fragrant roses.
Yves Piaget was one of the first and an instant hit in Europe. A Hybrid Tea with huge flowers and an incredible fragrance. Good health and reblooms all summer. The canes could support the big roses and that was a clear advantage over the DA roses.
Soon after Yves Piaget Chartreuse de Parme appeared. It was a seedling of Piaget and Nuit d'orient and became an instant classic.
Chartreuse de Parme has huge cyclam /raspberry to purple blooms in perfect Hybrid tea style. The bush is very "beefy" with strong, thick shoots which support the big flowers perfectly. An amazing feature of this rose is that she doesn't loose its color. She can hold color for days and her vase life is exceptional. It's a rather short rose of approximately 90cm so she's very suitable for pots.
A very healthy rose with big glossy leafs.
And then there's its fragrance. Well this rose is known for it. It's a very strong old rose with intense lemon 🍋 undertone. Delicious!
When I lived in Amsterdam I had chartreuse de Parme on my roof terrace in pots and she was a stunner.
I couldn't resist myself so I just bought two of them. She's coming back into my life 😊

Dirk's opinion:
A modern classic and a must have for HT lovers who love extremely fragrant roses.
She got six gold medals for fragrance. The color is quite unique and the size of the flowers is huge. No, they don't tipp over when wet so they don't need support. If you can? Buy her! Highly recommended
