Tolstoï

Tolstoï, Böhm but probably Geschwind

Hybrid Setigera

Belle de Baltimore X Mme Grégoire Staechelin

Something very very special: Tolstoï is a real showstopper. Giant, puffy, very full blooms in small clusters. The color is pink with deeper pink on the reverse. Tolstoï reminds me of Mme Caroline Testout climbing and Constance Spry but probably with even bigger blooms. Strong fragrance! Summer blooming for several weeks. She can reach 4 meters or 13 feet.

Böhm brought Tolstoï on the market in 1937 but we now think the rose originated from Geschwind and Böhm found her. We know that Geschwind created many Setigera hybrids (Erinnerung an Brod, Aurelia Liffa etc...)
Zone 5b to 9b, rain tolerant
I have a rose friend in Zeeland in the Netherlands and he gave me some pics of his Tolstoi. He said: Whatever you do, DON'T PRUNE HER, she will deteriorate.
One of the great creations of Rudolf Geschwind
