Erinnerung an Brod, Geschwind 1884
Hybrid Setigera
Erinnerung an brod (A souvenir from Brod) is a special rose that's gaining more and more attention and not without reason. Bred by Rudolf Geschwind from the bygone Austrian/Hungarian Imperial empire before 1884. Brod is a little village in current Bosnia (former Yugoslavia) and this rose was a remembrance of it.
Geschwind was particularly interested in creating very hardy roses which could withstand the harsh winters of central Europe. Often he used the wild Prairie rose, R. Setigera, as a parent and with Erinnerung an Brod it was no exception. He crossed Setigera with the Damask Génie de Châteaubriand (no, not the delicious steak 🥩 lol)
The result was both exceptionally beautiful as intriguing: A tall rose with light green foliage and thin flexibel canes, ideal for Training on things. The flowers are of stunning beauty: Deep dark pink/Mauve to purple. They often have a green button eye. They stand in small clusters and are moderately to very fragrant. The rose can take considerable shade. It blooms only once but for a very long time, six or seven weeks. Very healthy and zone 5b to 9b
It's like a climbing Charles de Mills...
