Paul Shirville

Paul Shirville, Harkness 1980

Hybrid Tea

Compassion X Mischief

An extremely popular rose till the end of the nineties but now almost forgotten. Harkness created so many good Hybrid Teas and Paul Shirville is one of them.

It's the kind of rose bud and bloom shape people loved back then. Unfortunately so many modern HT's fell completely flat when they were fully opened which looked very sloppy. It's the reason why I hated HT's in the beginning.

Paul Shirville however kept his shape when fully open. The high centered peach 🍑 salmon pink buds unfold in perfect HT tradition into peach 🍑 pink big flowers. They inherited the strong sweet fragrance from Compassion. They stand alone on one branch or in small clusters.
Growth is not tall but rather bushy, 100X80 cm or 3X3 feet. Zone 6b to 9b
Paul Shirville is susceptible to Blackspot so maybe not recommended in rainy areas.

Reblooming is very good as all Harkness roses except for Margaret Merrill

Although Paul Shirville has compassion as a parent the blooms and buds are of just a bit less quality compared to Compassion itself. It is however a good reliable rose that will give you a bunch of big fragrant flowers
