Wild species, introduced in the United Kingdom by Reginard Whitley in 1820
Native to tropical India, Bangladesh, Birma, Laos and Thailand. This is the only rose which grows in swamps and gets submerged a big part of the year. Another form is found in mountain areas. All other roses in the world can't survive for two days when waterlogged but Clinophylla loves it like a fish in the water.
Vigorous growth up to 450 cm or 14 feet, feathery like leaves. Blooms are white, single and show their stamen. Occasionally repeats later in the season. Fine sweet fragrance.
This is one of the roses that Viru and Girija Viraraghavan use in their breeding program to create roses which are suitable for tropical regions. Zone 9b to 10b
Pat Henry is one the roses that has R. Clinophylla in it's parentage. No doubt more varieties will get introduced...
