Obelisks: A must have in your rose garden

We all know that many roses can get quite tall and not only climbing roses. So many old roses, HT's and modern Hybrids make tall shrubs of at least 1,5 meters or 5 feet. Combined with the big, heavy old fashioned blooms the stems will bend over inevitably and in the worst case fall onto the ground. Especially our beloved David Austin Roses are known to have a floppy growing habit and soon your beautiful roses will look like a mess.
One of the best ways to counter this problem is by using obelisks. Just put them over your newly planted roses and stick them into the soil for at least 30 cm or a foot deep. Obelisks can be made of all kinds of materials but those of wrought iron are the best and will last for decades. They are however the most expensive. Luckily we have amazon and other big webshops to shop for beautiful obelisks in all heights and prices. Today the most affordable obelisks are those that are made from iron pipes which you can assemble easily at home. They cost almost nothing and will support your roses for at least 8 to ten years. You can also use wooden obelisks or made from willow branches. They won't last ten years but five years is also quite good. If you buy obelisks from hardwood or oak they will last for the rest of your life. There are obelisks for everyone's 👛
Obelisks can also be used as a perfect support for your roses in pot, in fact they are quite indispensable as they will allow your roses to make a grand shrub without flopping over to the ground. Just put them in the pot when you plant your rose and soon the rose will reach into the obelisk making more blooms than ever. Of course you can help a bit by training the longer branches on the obelisk.
Obelisks will allow your roses to grow taller, more full, with more blooms and this without flopping to the ground.
They will prevent a lot of heartache after heavy thunderstorms in summer with our blooms turning top heavy.
Use them!
