Meghamala

Meghamala, Viru and Girija Viraraghavan 2016

Hybrid Gigantea

Incense Indigo X Sirohi Sunrise

Imagine Étoile de Hollande (the well known early Hybrid Tea) with blooms on steroids? Well that's how the blooms of Meghamala look.
Extremely large deep dark wine red full blooms opening into flat saucers with golden stamen. When the blooms are fully open a ring of purple or mauve appears around the center just like a necklace, hence the name Meghamala, Necklace of clouds. Moderate to strong fragrance.
Vigorous growth up to 150 cm or 6 feet but on very ferm canes. The flowers stand in small clusters but are mostly borne solitary.
Foliage itself is a beautiful Feature because it has a bronze chocolate color, very pretty. Healthy and heat resistant Zone 7b to 10b
Very good cut flower and extremely pretty against a darker background.
Highly recommended rose
