Paul Noël

Paul Noël, Rémi Tanne 1910

Large flowering Wichuraiana climber

Although this rose isn't bred by Barbier I placed it here because it's almost identical in habit and growth as the Barbier climbers.

Often confused with François Juranville or Paul Transon Paul Noël is a spectacular climber. Rather slim, flexible long stems which can reach 600 cm or 18 feet. By the end of May the rose is covered with buds and they open in very full pompon style blooms in an apricot color. The more the blooms open the more the color will change to salmon pink. The color also is affected by the weather, the warmer it gets the more pink they become. The flowers have a strong Apple 🍏 fragrance. Once the first flush is finished she starts to grow and believe me it goes fast. End of July she again starts to bloom with a bit less blooms but still very worthwhile. When she's contained in a hot spot without good air circulation she can get mildew but just ignore it, she will recover quickly without damage. I have seen blackspot. Lens Roses has a majestic specimen at their nursery, it's massive in full flush. I bought mine from Lens as a Weeping rose and it has grown like hell. Ann Boudolf was worried about one broken branch while getting send off to me but the rose recovered like crazy. Very vigorous rose and very thorny too! Zone 6b to 9b. I love my Paul Noël!
