Leander

Leander, David Austin 1982

English rose

Charles Austin X Unnamed seedling

Charles Austin is the parent of the most magnificent DA roses and Leander is one of them. Forgotten by David Austin nurseries itself but not by me and many many Leander lovers. Thank God she's still available in the USA and some EU nurseries.
Apricot/orange /peach very full, quartered/rosette shaped blooms in clusters. They appear on a tall, vigorous plant. Can reach 400 cm if grown against a wall or trellis. Lower when used on an obelisk or pyramid but still tall. Needs deep deadheading so prune away more than just the spend blooms to force a rebloom. Strong fruity fragrance. Extremely healthy. Zone 5b to 9b
My parents still have Leander and just like it's parent Charles Austin it has become a massive, wide rose bush. Why Austin ditched Leander? We'll never know. If you see it in a nursery buy it.
