English rose
Mary rose X Prospero
Like the big red China peonies...
That's how the Dark lady was described when she was released in 1991. However, she quickly disappeared from the Austin catalog for reasons unknown
Big, dark red, very full, rosette shaped blooms. They stand alone on arching canes. Good balanced growth without floppy habits. The blooms don't fall onto the ground. Moderate to strong old rose fragrance. Flushes freely throughout the season. Good cut flower and very beautiful in the border combined with blue, pink and white perennials. Good for pot culture.
Health is moderate, she can get blackspot.
120X100 cm or 5X4 feet
If you see her and you love the early English roses you should buy her. Soon she will disappear from many nurseries in the USA too. In Europe she's almost gone.
