The China roses: The foundation of our modern roses
Part III
Parks Yellow tea scented China
China Hybrid /Bengal Hybrid
A rose discovered in 1824 by John Damper Parks in China where he was on a mission. Again this rose is probably much older and cultivated by Chinese breeders.
Just like the previous rose (Hume's Blush tea scented China) this rose is lost to us. Peter Beales claimed he had rediscovered her in 1980 and introduced her commercially. But we now are sure that this rose in commerce isn't the original.
The original had pale, Sulfur yellow Tea shaped flowers and bloomed all summer. The current rose in commerce is a stunning white, very filled bloom with strong fragrance. She can reach several meters but she only blooms once but still it's an exquisite rose and a must have if you have an old fruit tree or shed it can cover.
The pictures I'll show are from the Parks Yellow tea scented China in commerce found by Peter Beales
