Graham Thomas, 1983
English rose
Probably, together with Gertrude Jekyll, the most popular English rose.
It has its merrits but I've removed her from my garden because of her very weak health and prune to Blackspot.
Many love this rose and her old fashioned deep yellow radiant blooms are indeed beautiful but they fade extremely quickly into white and during warm weather the blooms won't hold longer than one day.
As parents Graham Thomas had the unsurpassed Charles Austin X Schneewitchen or iceberg (fée de neiges)
The rose inherited her thornless smooth canes from Schneewitchen and her free-flowering character. This is not a small rose and she can climb up to 3 meter so yes she's better as a climber. When the blooms are opening they exude this strong fresh tea fragrance. Reblooming is very good.
My experience however was one of weak health but maybe other people had and have different experiences.
Yellow roses are usually always more prune to get blackspot
As a parent herself this rose proved to be a real winner. She's a parent rose of Princess Charlène de Monaco, Mademoiselle Meilland, Ginger Syllabub and many Warren Millington Roses. As usual DA roses are extremely good parents when crossed with stronger Hybrid Tea roses. They give elegance, fragrance and beauty to their offspring
