Frederic Mistral, Meilland 1991
An early example of the Romantica ® line of Meilland.
She was Meilland's answer to the English roses from David Austin. Where Austin chose for old fashioned blooms on rather weak arching stems Meilland took a different approach. They created old fashioned hybrid tea blooms with a very strong fragrance on a sturdy plant with strong canes.
Frederic Mistral, named after the French poet, has exquisite light pink perfect Hybrid tea buds and blooms. They have many petals. Whereas many Hybrid tea flowers have this inclination to fall flat when fully opened Frédéric Mistral's flowers go puffy and keep their beautiful shape till the end. A very good habit. She reblooms very fast and her health is more than satisfactory. Her stems are strong and upright. 110 cm.
Her fragrance is strong old rose with a pinch of anise, very subtle.
Another very positive aspect is her cut flower ability. She keeps beautiful for a whole week in a vase and even in bud stage they eventually go open in water.
I'm in love with this rose and I don't want a garden without her.
