Dr W Van Fleet

Dr W van Fleet, Van Fleet 1910

Large flowering rambler

Dr W van Fleet always was a very special rose but he gained much more attention when it spawned a reblooming sport: New Dawn. Yes Dr W van Fleet is the parent rose of New Dawn and is similar in all respects except for the reblooming aspect and the Hight.

Dr W van Fleet has very interesting ancestors such as Lady Mary Fitzwilliam, Souvenir de president Carnot and the elegant tea, Safrano. Of course the other major parent was Rosa Wichuraiana

Due to its Tea and early Hybrid tea and even Noisette ancestors Dr W van fleet has silky mother of pearl silvery flowers, they look just like Tea roses. They come in clusters. The real surprise is the lack of a strong fragrance. It has some mild tea fragrance but with these ancestors you'd expect a strong delicious fragrance. It's obvious it got its appearance from the tea roses but it's fragrance from rosa Wichuraiana.
Because she doesn't rebloom Dr W van fleet can put all its energy in growth and that's why she can reach 10 meters. Also because of the lack of reblooming she's more healthy than her famous daughter.

In full flush it's a real stunner and she can be used on pergolas, big arches, gazebos etc..
Large flowering ramblers aren't that common so you might give this one a try, after all it's rose royalty 👑
