Cardinal de Richelieu

Cardinal de Richelieu, Parmentier 1840

Gallica

Another great classic from Belgium, Cardinal de Richelieu bears dark red blooms turning into purple with aging. Blooms are very full, cupped and show their stamen. They stand in clusters. Once blooming for five weeks. Moderate to strong fragrance.
Very healthy and Hardy rose zone 4b to 9b. Makes a rounded shrub of 150 X 150 cm or 6 X 6 feet. Can take shade.
Very beautiful at the back of the border.
Cardinal de Richelieu was the strong man behind King Louis XIII of France and Navarra. He paved the way, together with cardinal Mazarin, for Absolutism in France
