Ghita RENAISSANCE, Poulsen
Danish rose breeder Poulsen became popular with his highly acclaimed Renaissance group. They were very disease resistant, had glossy healthy leafs and good repeat flowering. That was in the nineties and today Poulsen is keeping up the good work
Some five years ago my husband, Yves, came from the garden center and he had bought.... a rose! 🤣. He said it was the last one they had and it was standing alone and lonely. I said yes, good you saved her. I looked at the label and it said Ghita Renaissance. Mmm I immediately thought of Poulsen and his Renaissance group but I didn't grow any of the Poulsen roses because I grew only old roses and Austin's. But here was Ghita and I had to find a good spot for her. Next to the patio there was a sunny spot next to our copper garden crucifix. When her first flower opened it showed a lovely pink color. Many pettaled blooms. But of course, my Pavlov effect is to stick my nose in every rose I see, so also Ghita got the treatment and.... WOW! Delicious! And for such a modern rose!? Yes, Ghita had passed the test cum laude! The next year she started quickly in April and soon we knew she wanted to climb. So we gave her that chance because she was standing against a wall. A trellis was attached to it and climb Ghita climb! Which she did!
She bloomed abundantly with plenty of her fragrant flowers. She never got sick, it's a tough bitch this Ghita. So 120 cm as a shrub but easily 200 cm as a small climber.
Now I can't part of her anymore. She really brought some Renaissance Flair into the garden!
PS I almost forgot: This rose is also known as Mum in a million
