Red Eden
Modern Climber
First of all: This rose has nothing to do with the rose Pierre de Ronsard aka Eden rose. The only thing in common is that they are bred by the same company
The parents are: Cappa Magna X Ulmer Münster (a Cappa Magna is a very long blood red liturgical garment for a Roman catholic cardinal)
Eric Tabarly, named after a French sailor, grows up to 450 cm or 13 feet. Not with strong HT like canes but rather bushy short stems. Very vigorous. It can take some time before the rose gets started. Be patient. Full sun and heat are REALLY required and I'll tell you why: The blooms are MAGNIFICENT deep red and very filled with petals. Often quartered they resemble the big red Chinese peonies. The buds are very big and almost round. The blooms have a good moderate to strong Damask fragrance. So with these many many petals contained in the buds it's almost inevitable that they have problems with opening if it gets rainy weather. In a sunny spot with good airflow this problem can be reduced. Don't plant underneath a tree or overhanging branches. It will take longer to dry up underneath trees. Zone 6b to 9b
I've seen Eric Tabarly last summer and I was impressed by its blooms. I had to touch them to make sure they weren't fake as they are so perfect.
Eric Tabarly tells us again that the perfect rose doesn't exist but these blooms come pretty close
