Rosa Setigera
Wild species
A native to North America this Rosa Setigera or prairie rose. As a climber or large shrub it can be a very beautiful display in your garden. Large, single blooms of deep pink with white in clusters or solitaire. She's once flowering and sets rounded hips. It's an ecological rose as it attracts many pollinators and birds. It has another remarkable feature: It is the only rose which has exclusively male and female plants. The male plants have a bit larger blooms and more pollen attracting more bees and bumblebees. This rose is extremely Hardy, zone 3b and higher. So it can be grown in all parts of the USA. Very charming as a climber covering a fence or an obelisk.
Rudolf Geschwind was one of the 19th century breeders which crossed extensively with R. Setigera for its hardiness. Geschwind was his time ahead
