Mme Jules Gravereaux, Soupert et Notting 1900
Climbing Tea
Jules Gravereaux was a famous man in the French rose world. He designed many rose gardens but the most famous was and still is Roseraie de l'Hay. No wonder roses were named after him and his wife as there are Rhodologue Jules Gravereaux (Triomphe de Luxembourg) and this Mme Jules Gravereaux.
Gravereaux adored Tea roses as they were at their Hight in the second half of the 19th century. Their children, the Hybrid Teas would soon emerge and dominate the rose world the next 100 years. At their very best the Hybrid Teas have the same exquisite flowers as their parents but often they are less beautiful. The great improvement was their strong growth and more vigor but with this they lost a lot of the elegance of the Teas.
Mme Jules Gravereaux has a range of different colors. She can be light pink but also all shades of yellow, gold and amber. The blooms are typical tea and exude a lovely fragrance. Strong vigorous growth up to 350 meters. Blooms all summer long until first frost.
Teas need a sunny spot and adore a warm south wall. Keep that in mind when you plant them. Zone 7b till 9b
Mme Jules Gravereaux is one of those beauties from the past and we must treasure them so they aren't lost forever.
