Early Hybrid Tea
Madame de Tartas X Lady Mary Fitzwilliam
One of the most famous roses ever created. Immensely popular since her introduction in 1890, reaching legendary status in first half of the 20th century especially in Portland America. Portland is the rose city with many celebrations regarding roses. Thousands of Mme Caroline Testout plants were planted there and some still exist. They are Local heritage there.
Today, Mme Caroline Testout is still available as a shrub Hybrid Tea but she's long surpassed by her climbing sport which appeared in 1901. Her climbing sport is still one of the most beautiful and popular climbers today. Climbing Hybrid Teas are always better and more beautiful than their shrub parents.
The shrub form can reach 120 cm or 5 feet and is quite bushy. From the buds pink petals appear, deeper in the center and silvery at the edges. Once opened the double blooms get really puffy which gives them an opulent, rich feature. They have a moderate to strong Tea fragrance.
The blooms keep on coming all summer long. She's Hardy zone 4b to 9b
Dont plant her in a spot without airflow. She can get mildew without some air circulation. Otherwise she's very healthy.
This rose is world heritage and it doesn't care how you grow her, as a shrub or as a climber, just grow her!
