Meilland wanted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the launch of Papa Meilland with a similar rose but adjusted to today's standards so better disease resistance. It got the name Jubilé Papa Meilland and on paper it says the new rose is almost identical to the old one except for health.

I've seen both roses and one thing is the same: The fragrance. Jubilé also has a strong damask fragrance but maybe a bit more citrussy?

The bloom form looks the same but in my opinion the old Papa holds its shape better when fully open. The color maybe is the same on paper but in real life the Jubilé Papa is brighter red, not much but the old Papa is definitely darker and in my opinion more beautiful.

Growth is almost identical and both have this thin upright growth just like almost all red HT but remember these are bred as cut flowers, not as garden roses.

So rose against rose: Which is more beautiful? 

Color: Old papa unless you like lighter red. 

Fragrance: In the end the old papa but that's my opinion

Bloom shape: Old papa. It holds its shape better when fully opened

Growth: Almost identical

Health: Jubilé is resistant against blackspot and mildew and rust

So if you care more about the health you should choose Jubilé. If you care more about fragrance, color and bloom shape you should choose the old papa meilland. In the end the old Papa is only susceptible to Blackspot so it doesn't mean he always has it.

Final Judgment: Papa or Jubilé Papa?

PAPA !
