Old Glory
Old John
Noisette /Tea Noisette /Climbing Tea
Parents: Desprez à fleur jaune X Souvenir de la Malmaison
One of the most popular roses ever bred. Gloire de Dijon once was the most propagated rose in the world.
Copper /Yellow /salmon pink quartered globular blooms in small clusters or solitary. Very strong fruity fragrance. This climber can reach 4 meters or 12 feet in theory. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Zone 6b to 9b which is good for a Noisette/Tea. She's not that healthy and has developed some susceptibility for blackspot and mildew.
Her biggest problem however is her genetic degradation. Nowadays it's hard to find a vigorous, strong Gloire de Dijon rose. Mostly you get a weak specimen which won't grow and that's not how she used to be.
She's propagated by the millions and it had its toll. Nurseries are searching for old strong plants on own roots in old gardens to take cuttings from to improve the genes. Let's hope they succeed because it's a real glorious rose. Member of the Rose Hall of fame.
